Manchester Police Chief to Retire, Take Job in Massachusetts

Manchester's police chief is set to retire and take Job in Massachusetts, the town's general manager said.

MANCHESTER, CT — Police Chief Marc Montminy, a police officer in Manchester since 1989 who rose through the ranks to the top cop's position, plans to retire locally and take a chief’s job in Uxbridge, MA, General Manager Scott Shanley said Monday.

The chief's last day in Manchester will be Sept. 10, Shanley said. Deputy Chief William Darby will serve as interim chief as town officials "assess the situation," according to Shanley.

Montminy started on the job in Manchester on Jan. 15, 1989 as a patrol officer. He worked his way up through the ranks and was named chief in June 2009.

Officers are eligible for retirement after 25 years on the force and are fully vested with pension benefits after 27-and-a-half years, Shanley said.
