Manchester Police SROs Ready For Students' Return To School

MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester Public Schools students in all grades will return to classrooms Wednesday, and the town's school resource officers are preparing to welcome students, families and staff for the new school year.

The Manchester Police Department said its SROs will be present throughout the district to help maintain safe school communities.

Police are also reminding motorists and families to take extra precautions as school-year traffic returns.

Drivers are encouraged to:

• Slow down and obey posted speed limits, particularly in school zones.
• Stop for school buses when red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.
• Follow the directions of crossing guards.
• Watch for children walking, biking or being dropped off at schools.
• Avoid distracted driving, including cellphone use.
• Allow extra time for commutes and expect increased traffic around schools.
• Watch for pedestrians in crosswalks and at intersections.
• Be patient and courteous around school buses, parents and student drivers.

Police encouraged the community to work together to keep students, families, school employees and motorists safe throughout the school year.
