Manchester Resident Wants Variance Considered For Pet Turkey
She wants Dirk the turkey to move to Manchester.

MANCHESTER, CT — Mary Teixeira is seeking a variance from the town's zoning rules so she can keep a pet turkey at her single-family house.
Her name is Dirk, according to a Hartford Courant story.
Dirk provides several eggs a week, Teixeira says, and she wants to move the bird from a friend's place in Montville to her Manchester home.

Last year, zoning officials approved rules allowing residents to keep up to 12 chickens (hens; no roosters), provided that the birds are adequately sheltered from the elements and predators. The regulations, however, do not mention turkeys.
