Manchester Restaurant Going To Traditional Tipping After 'Test'

MANCHESTER, CT — A unique Manchester restaurant that had been employing a unique billing system has gone to the traditional tipping system for 2020.

The announcement by Bistro on Main has made just before the holidays.

"When we opened, we tried an experiment and embraced a non-tipping model," the announcement says.

That translated to gratuities being included in the bill and most of the employees making about $15 an hour.

"Two years in, after feedback from both guests and staff, we have decided to change to a traditional tipping model," the announcement concludes.

That means wages for tipping positions will change according to state law and menu prices are being adjusted.

The restaurant is owned and operated by the Manchester Area Conference of Churches. It opened in 2017 at 867 Main St.

Bistro on Main has a French-themed menu with a farm-to-table approach that utilizes agreements with area fishermen, farmers and "artisans." It has won several business and culinary awards.
