Manchester Special Ed Administrator Stepping Down
Her "retirement" becomes official at the end of June.

MANCHESTER, CT - Shelly Matfess, the local school system's assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services, is "retiring."
She signed an agreement with school administrators to retire on June 30 and her separation agreement states, "it is in the best interest of all parties," a Journal Inquirer story reports.
The Journal Inquirer obtained the nine-page agreement on Thursday through a freedom-of-information request.

Matfess has been on paid leave, the agreement says, and will remain on leave until the end of June while collecting her salary of $152,084.
At the end of June, the Board of Education will pay Matfess a lump sum of $13,055, for 22.32 unused vacation days, according to the separation agreement.

Matfess has been director of pupil personnel services, which administers special education services, since 2008.
