Marco Polo Restaurant Closing After About 60 Years in Business

Owners only offered a brief statement about Marco Polo's last day in business in East Hartford.

EAST HARTFORD, CT — A culinary fixture in north central Connecticut is closing its doors.

Marco Polo's last meal will be served on Sunday, its owners said in a brief posting on the Facebook page for the business.

The restaurant and banquet hall know for its Italian food and reception catering on Burnside Avenue has been around for about 60 years.

Here is the statement:

"It is with a heavy heart, after approximately 60 years, the Marco Polo Restaurant and Banquet Facility will be open for its final weekend. Our last day of operation will be Sunday Aug. 14, 2016. We would like to thank all of our friends and customers that we have had the privilege of serving."

The owners offered no other explanation, but as late as July 30, they were promoting the business on the Facebook page, especially for post-funeral gatherings.

The restaurant's Web site, Marcopoloct.com, appeared to be dismantled on Thursday morning.
