Martial Artist Inspired by Power Rangers
Master Rogers Credits His Love of Martial Arts to Childhood Superheroes
Daniel Rogers, 5th Degree Black Belt and Master Instructor at the Academy of Martial Arts & Personal Development in Manchester, CT, is feeling like a kid again. “I was about 8 years old when the "Power Rangers" TV show came out (in the mid-90s) and I loved it!”, he says. “Yeah, it may seem kind of “cheesy”, but to a kid, it was amazing!” Apparently, he’s not the only one.
Ready for a new generation, “The Power Rangers” movie is set to open in theaters across this weekend, and Master Rogers couldn’t be more thrilled. “A big piece of every Power Rangers episode was the martial arts action”, he says. “They were teenagers who got super-powers and could do amazing things… I wanted to be just like them.” Master Rogers managed to convince his parents to sign him up for martial arts classes at the Academy of Martial Arts in 1996, and he hasn’t looked back since. “Most people have a TV or movie character that they look up to or are inspired by. But, very few of them ever actually get to FEEL what it’s like to be that character. That’s what training in the martial arts has done for me; I’m able to jump, kick, flip and move like a Power Ranger!” While Master Rogers doesn’t watch the TV show anymore, he does plan on seeing the Power Rangers movie. “My son is the same age I was when I started watching the show, so it’s pretty cool to relive my childhood alongside my own child!”
Grandmaster Waldron, Owner and Grandmaster Instructor of the Academy of Martial Arts, believes that "the martial arts are an invaluable tool in developing children into confident, capable members of society. Adults benefit from a positive, safe and challenging environment as well as the chance to constantly grow, mentally and physically.” He adds, “We always tell our students that training in the martial arts is the closest that they’ll ever come to being a superhero, and Master Rogers is the perfect example of that!” For more information, about The Academy of Martial Arts & Personal Development, contact them by calling 860-646-7993, emailing at masterwaldron@gmail.com, visiting their website at www.TheAcademy.us or visiting the school at 440 Oakland Street, Manchester.
