Massive Layoffs Announced At Manchester Warehouse, But ADUSA Hiring
A company is leaving a warehouse in Manchester after losing a contract and eliminating hundreds of jobs, but the plant remains operational.
MANCHESTER, CT — Nearly 400 jobs are being eliminated and a contract company is moving out of a warehouse facility in Manchester. The primary tenant said the facility will remain fully operational.
Freight Handlers LLC Wednesday filed a "Notice of Wind Down and Suspension of Operations" with the Connecticut Department of Labor that indicated the company has lost its contract with anchor tenant ADUSA Distribution at 1315 Tolland Turnpike and will shut down its operations there.
The closing will result in "the permanent suspension" of all FHI operations at the Manchester Facility, and "all of the FHI employees working at or reporting into the Manchester Facility will be terminated, unless offered employment by ADUSA," according to the filing.

FHI said in the filing that the closing will occur on March 31 and a total of 383 positions will be eliminated.
No employees at the Manchester Facility are represented by a labor union, according to the filing.

ADUSA was clear Friday that just FHI was leaving and that the warehouse is alive and well.
The company released the following statement:
"ADUSA Distribution remains committed to the Manchester community. ADUSA Distribution will continue to operate the Manchester distribution center but has made the decision to self-manage the workforce there and is in the process of hiring a workforce for the site."
