Matthew Boyer of Troop 27 Earns Eagle Scout Award

Teen's Eagle Scout Project Rejuvenates Manchester Area of Conference of Churches Building

Boy Scout Troop 27 will honor Matt Boyer, 17, at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 4pm at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 41 Park St. in Manchester, CT. Matt is the son of Stephen and Michelle Boyer of Manchester, CT.
Only two percent of Scouts attain the highest rank of the Boy Scouts of America. An Eagle Scout must have completed at least 21 merit badges and organized a service project that benefits his church, community, or school. Boyer chose to repair and refinish the front steps and front area of the Manchester Area Conference of Churches (MACC) on 466 Main Street. Boyer started planning his project mid October of 2015. With the help of Troop 27 he completed the project on May 21 of 2016. He passed his board of review on November 10th of 2016. He becomes the 111th Eagle Scout out of Troop 27 and the 9th since 2012.

Boyer is a senior at Manchester High School and is expected to graduate in June of 2017. He plans to attend college in the fall with a major in Civil Engineering because of his experience in scouting. At Manchester High School, Boyer is a member of the National Honor Society, The Interact Club and plays for the MHS Varsity Baseball team. He has served on the town’s Youth Commission and volunteers once a week with the Youth Service Bureau’s program “Journey” as a mentor for young children.
