Saturday, April 7th at around 8:30 am gardeners started flocking to the MCC community garden, the second sign of spring, gardeners digging in the soil and getting their hands dirty. New gardeners got to pick out their plots and many began prepping them especially Mike Pence and his wife. They made short work of cleaning up their plot that hadn't been gardened in several years. They earned this reporters vote for "gardeners of the year" if they keep up that level of effort. The Veterans at Ease group and the first year at the garden is part of MCC's Veteran Peer Mentor Program funded by a generous donation from Monaco Ford in Glastonbury and overseen by Ta'Shema Odoms, was also impressive with the work they got done and the amount of enthusiasm that emanated and affirmed spring has sprung, time to grow. There were other gardeners that returned later and got er done in prepping their plots, especially Taylor and Allison.
Starting on Saturday, April 21st at 9:00 am there will be a one hour garden talk on timely garden topics covering the spectrum of all things pertinent to growing edibles, special emphasis on pests. These talks are free and open to the public. These talks are part of the outreach portion of The Master Gardener program. The garden talks will be every other Saturday through October, when we will put our gardens to bed after hopefully a bountiful harvest.
