The following was sent to the Manchester BOE for tonight's meeting. Let them know how YOU feel.
I have been following the passionate social media posts and newspaper articles regarding the possible change of the MHS Mascot from the current "Indian" to the "Red Hawks". While I can appreciate most of the rational behind the arguments for both sides, I feel any rush to a decision by the BOE would not be in the best interest of the students of MHS, past and present. While a motion to consider this change at your next Board meeting is acceptable, I feel more input from the community and further study on this matter should be done before a final decision is made. Therefore, as a MHS alumni and former MHS athlete, I am requesting that you postpone your decision to a later BOE meeting.
I personally feel we should keep the "Indian" as our MHS Mascot as it was chosen as a sign of respect, power, and strength of the MHS community.
