NASCAR-Style Crash on I-84 Leads to Charges Against Manchester Man

A Manchester man is facing two charges after fleeing the scene of a wild crash.

VERNON, CT — A Manchester man has been charged for allegedly causing a NASCAR-style rollover accident on Interstate-84, state police said.

The crash took place Sunday at 8:59 p.m., state police said. Troy Murphy, 45, of Center Street in Manchester, was heading Westbound about a mile before Exit 66, state police said. His vehicle rear-ended another vehicle and that vehicle rolled several times before finally coming to rest in the center lane of the highway, state police said.

Murphy evaded the scene but was picked up a short time later at another location in Vernon, state police said.

The other driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, according top a crash report.

Murphy was charged with evading responsibility at a scene with an injury and driving under the influence, state police said. He posted a $5,000 bond and is slated to appear in court on Oct. 2, according to a crash report.
