BOLTON, CT — A welfare check on a vehicle at Bolton Notch turned into a fugitive arrest and a half-million-dollar bond, state police said.

On Sunday, at about 10:30 a.m., a state trooper was conducting a patrol check of the commuter parking lot along Route 44 in Bolton and observed a vehicle parked in the southeast corner of the lot with a sunshade affixed to the windshield and blankets covering each passenger window, according to an incident report.

Another Trooper was nearby at the time and also pulled into the lot, state police said.

As the troopers approached the vehicle, they heard someone climb from the back seat to the front and a woman told them she had been there since 8 p.m. the previous night and had been sleeping.

The woman provided the Troopers with a Connecticut driver's license that identified her as Cynthia Conant, 26, of Newington.

The investigating trooper relayed Conant's license information to the Troop K dispatch center and was subsequently told that Conant was the subject of an extraditable arrest warrant from the state of Colorado for failure to appear with court with an underlying charge of Intimidation, according to an incident report. Troop K dispatchers then contacted with the Fort Collins, CO, Police Department, which confirmed it would extradite Conant, state police said.

Conant was arrested without incident and transported to Troop K where she was charged with being a fugitive from justice, according to an incident report. Conant was held over the weekend on a $500,000 bond and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Monday.
