Washington opened in 1915 (and cost $62,000 to build) but is closing as part of a multi-faceted campaign to modernize elementary schools throughout the district.
Barlow is scheduled to give her presentation at 6:15 p.m. and again at 7:15 p.m. She will discuss the Ninth District School Fire in 1913 that led to the hasty construction of the Washington building, the “four acres” behind the school where Olympian Joe McCluskey trained and more.
Washington Elementary School is at 94 Cedar St.
