Pepe's Announces New Business Venture — Tomatoes

MANCHESTER, CT – Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria is now marketing the tomatoes that make up the sauce for its famed pies by themselves.

Pepe's officials made the announcement Tuesday. Pepe's has a location in Manchester's Buckland Hills shopping district.

Pepe’s officials are famous for how meticulous they are in choosing tomatoes, including a blind taste test with several different varietals every year.

The tomatoes will retail at $3.50 per 28-ounce can at each of Pepe’s 10 restaurant locations and $10 for a three-pack of the cans on www.pepespizza.com.

Pepe’s, has been serving up coal-fired pizzas since 1925.

"The new product line gives home cooks a chance to recreate – check that … attempt to recreate – Pepe’s delicious, tomato-forward pizza, whenever they please," Pepe's officials said.
