Public Input Sought in Manchester Police Chief Search

Manchester General Manager Scott Shanley is asking members of the public for the input as part of the search for a new police chief.

MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester General Manager Scott Shanley is asking members of the public for the input as part of the search for a new police chief.

Shanley has presented three questions:

  • What are the top three law enforcement challenges in Manchester?
  • What should the new chief’s highest priority be?
  • What traits are best in a candidate for chief of police?

Police Chief Marc Montminy, a police officer in Manchester since 1989 who rose through the ranks to the top cop's position, announced last month he was retiring locally to take a chief's job in Uxbridge, MA.

The chief's last day in Manchester was Sept. 10, Shanley said. Deputy Chief William Darby is serving as interim chief as town officials "assess the situation," according to Shanley.

Montminy started on the job in Manchester on Jan. 15, 1989 as a patrol officer. He worked his way up through the ranks and was named chief in June 2009.
