Red Cross Helping Manchester Family Displaced by Christmas Eve Fire
The fire broke out in Manchester on Christmas Eve.

MANCHESTER, CT — The Red Cross is working with a family displaced by a house fire on Christmas Eve.
The fire broke out at 21 Westerly St. in Manchester, fire officials said.
American Red Cross officials said the family includes four adults. The Red Cross provided assistance to meet the family's "immediate needs," officials said. The "comfort kits" handed out include personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant; shaving supplies and other items a resident might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape a fire.

Responders included Bill Schwarz, Jim Harry, Ben and Kelly Schenkman, officials said.
Those affected will meet with Red Cross caseworkers in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan, officials said.
