Remnants of the Loom City: Rockville's Mill Buildings Past and Present

NEW DATE - JUNE 21

Postponed from June 14

Architect Robert Hurd will give an illustrated lecture on the numerous mills that lined the Hockanum River from the Snipsic Lake dam to West Street in Rockville during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Mr. Hurd’s presentation will tie the construction methods and stylistic devices used for the mills to the technological advances brought by the industrial revolution and to architectural styles used elsewhere in the United States. The talk will conclude with a discussion of the future of Rockville's remaining mill buildings in terms of adaptive use and 'smart growth'. A Q&A session will follow.
