HARTFORD — State Representative Mark Tweedie (R-13), who recently shared his proposal (H.B. 5170) to prohibit the dispensing of opioids outside of a hospital setting to any person under the age of 18, has submitted another piece of legislation to the General Assembly.
House Bill 5635, An Act Concerning a Fee Structure for FOIA Requests of Body-Worn Camera Recordings, is designed to assign nominal fees to freedom of information requests for recordings obtained through body-worn recording equipment.
“My goal is to give police departments more incentive to fulfill FOIs in a timelier manner, and reduce the possibility of frivolous FOI filings which take time and resources away from other important law enforcement functions,” says Rep. Tweedie. “By providing more structure to the process we can ensure that citizens are able to receive requested and legally allowed information in the fastest manner; and that costs for time and technology use can be offset. I hope to help improve organization and time management related to FOI standards as best as possible.”
