MANCHESTER, CT — Democrat Sarah L. Jones, 47, is running for the Board of Directors in Manchester.

Occupation: Educational Consultant

Experience: Current: Deputy Mayor 2019-present; Director 2015-2019

Family in government: I am employed by the State Education Resource Center, a quasi-public agency supporting districts and schools across Connecticut.

The single most pressing issue facing our town is supporting our residents in COVID recovery efforts. Our slate for the Board intends to make this a priority for deploying resources.

Critical differences between me and my opponents:

I believe our slate of candidates are truly dedicated to supporting ALL of our residents and to finding creative and innovative ways of tackling structural challenges.

Accomplishments:

I’ve served on the Board since 2015 and in this current term took on the role of Deputy Mayor. During each term we have held taxes in check while continuing to make significant investments in our community, both in infrastructure and in supports. We recently completed a parks master plan to ensure our facilities are upgraded. We passed an ordinance establishing a Civilian Review & Relations Board. We passed a resolution declaring racism as a public health crisis and secured staffing to address systemic inequities. Lastly, and we passed a resolution directing the town to ensure our LGBTQ+ residents can live their lives as their whole selves and have staff and facilities that are affirming of them.

Voters and residents of Manchester should know that I am dedicated to the vision that the Democratic team has for our community. We believe in opportunities for ALL residents to live their lives with dignity and to participate fully in our community. To this end and we work diligently to ensure that policies and practices function as we hope and intend. We move deliberately to address issues and want to hear from our residents on all manner of issues.
