Serious Crash In Manchester Claims Life Of East Hartford Woman
A section of highway in Manchester was closed Thursday morning into the afternoon because f a serious crash.

MANCHESTER, CT — An East Hartford woman was killed Thursday morning in a two-car crash on the westbound side of Interstate-84 in Manchester, state police said.
The westbound side of the highway was shut down between exits 58 and 59 during the morning commute and into the early afternoon period.
According to a state police crash report, a 2015 Hyundai Genesis being driven by a 62-year-old South Windsor man was traveling west, just east of the exit 61 on-ramp in the center lane. A 2016 Nissan Juke being driven by a 26-year-old Hartford man was in the westbound HOV lane, just prior to the exit 61 on-ramp, according to a crash report.

The Nissan suddenly veered across the swale separating the HOV and regular travel lanes and then into the left and center travel lanes, and collided with the Hyunai, according to a crash report.
The Hyundai veered into a grassy area to the right and eventually came to a spinning stop, state police said.

The Nissan also veered into the grassy area to the right of the highway, but then traveled through a wooded area, re-entered the right shoulder, shot across all the westbound lanes — including the HOV lane — and collided with the concrete center median before stopping on the left shoulder of I-84, according to a crash report.
The driver of the Hyundai told state police he was not injured and declined medical evaluation at the scene, according to a crash report.
The driver of the Nisan suffered minor injuries and was transported to Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, according to a crash report.
A passenger in the front seat of the Nissan was transported to Hartford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to a crash report. State police identified her as 26-year-old Mireilly Nery Vega, of East Hartford.
The crash remained under investigation Thursday afternoon and state police are asking that anyone who witnessed contact Trooper Michael Dean, at Troop H, 860-534-1098 or through email via michael.dean@ct.gov.
State police were also asking for dash cam footage of the crash.
