Sex Offender Home in Manchester Gradually Closing

A state Department of Corretion-sponsored halfway house in Manchester for sex offenders appears to be slowly going out of existence.

All but one of the registered sex offenders in a halfway house set up by the Connecticut Department of Correction has moved out, and the state doesn’t plan to move any more in, according to a report on WNTH-TV.

Last month, Stephen Semple, interim commissioner of the department told community residents in a letter, “I do not intend to place any additional individuals at the Clinton street location from this time forward.”

Angry town residents at a meeting last month told Semple that the home never should have been located in that particular spot in the first place, since it was near many children. Some pointed out that a school bus stop was very close by; another person noted that there were many single women with children in the area.

Many objected that the community had not been informed until well after the convicted sex offenders, on parole, had been living at the location for months.
