MANCHESTER, CT — Civilians following what they suspected to be a stolen car were fired upon early Sunday, police said.

According to a report, at about 1 a.m. Monday, police received a call from two people who believed they were following a stolen vehicle.

Police described it as a black Acura MDX with Connecticut Registration 857ZWK on Hartford Road.

As the complainants, a male and female, were providing information to dispatchers, the driver of the the Acura discharged a firearm in their direction and the vehicle was hit by one round, according to a report.

Both the man and woman were not injured, police said.

Investigators determined at least two rounds were fired, a report indicates.
The Acura and the shooter remain at large.

Police said anyone encountering the vehicle should immediately call 911 to report it.

"We want to stress to the public not to put themselves in harm’s way," police said. "Should anyone witness suspicious activity related to crimes such as burglaries to motor vehicles, thefts of motor vehicles, or other similar crimes, 911 should be immediately called. The caller should be prepared to provide information regarding the active criminal activity to dispatchers, to include their location.

"With the help of the public, appropriate resources can be directed to apprehending criminals committing these crimes. Providing descriptions of suspects, vehicles and a direction of travel the suspect is headed can assist greatly in our response to these incidents."
