Some Connecticut Stores Taken Off Toys R Us Closure List

Some Connecticut Toy R Us and Babies R Us locations are off the chopping block, officials said.

MANCHESTER/WATERBURY, CT ―Citing "lease negotiations," Toys R Us officials seem to have had a change of heart with some designated closings in Connecticut in announcing Friday that two stores will be staying put.

The closings were announced in late January but on Friday officials for the chain said a Babies R Us store in Manchester and a combined Toys R Us and Babies R Us store in Waterbury will remain open.

That leaves stores in Newington and North Haven still designated to close.

As part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring, the Toys R Us corporation has been allowed to negotiate with landlords in an attempt to secure revised leases, officials said.

Toys R Us corporate spokeswoman Amanda Kahl has 12 stores will be co-branded into Toys R Us/Babies R Us combination locations. The timeline for it all is still being determined, as well as what stores will be co-branded, she said.
