One way of protecting against stains is to vacuum the furniture regularly. This will prevent stains from forming as a result of dust and dirt buildup. You will also want to wipe the couch down with a wet cloth at least once every six months.
You can also use a lint roller on upholstered furniture to keep it looking fresh and preventing a build-up that can result in spots and discoloration.

Another easy way to prevent stains is to ban eating and drinking while sitting on the furniture. Even water can create a stain!
You may also want to invest in a slip cover. If something happens, you can remove the slip cover, treat the stain, and then throw it into the washing machine. If you don’t have a slip cover, you can use a sheet to cover the seat cushions and a throw to cover the back cushions.
If a spill does happen, take care of it as soon as possible. First, blot up the excess liquid and then use water and a rag to clean the spot. For vinyl or leather, you can use soapy water followed by rubbing alcohol on most stains. Always follow this up with a leather conditioner on leather furniture. For fabrics, you can try rubbing alcohol, vinegar, oxygenated cleansers, and stain removers made specifically for upholstery.
These tips should help keep your furniture looking great!
