State Police File Manslaughter Charge in Fatal Manchester Methadone Case
A Willington man is facing a manslaughter charge in the case of sharing methadone.

MANCHESTER/WILLINGTON, CT — State police have charged a Willington man with manslaughter for an instance last fall when he shared methadone with a Manchester man who later died.
The incident was on Nov. 13 and claimed the life of Kevin Roy, 49, who lived at 174 Spruce St. in Manchester, an arrest warrant indicates. On Wednesday, state police charged 36-year-old William Kachuk with second-degree manslaughter, the illegal sale of a controlled substance and first-degree reckless endangerment, according to a warrant.
Kachuk, who lives at 47 Boston Turnpike in Willington, was held overnight on a $650,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Thursday, according to an arrest sheet. Willimantic police had picked him up, according to a warrant.

According to a warrant, Kachuk was taking methadone prescribed to him out of the Hartford Dispensary. Roy was taking three different prescribed medications, according to a warrant.
Roy had been asking Kachuk to let him try some meth, which Kachuk initially refused to share. Roy was particularly insistent when the two were at a local package store, according to a warrant.

Kachuk relented to "about a teaspoon" according to a warrant.
Roy began showing signs of being ill after taking the meth while drinking beer and he was found dead the next morning, according to a warrant.
A coroner's report showed the cause of death as "acute intoxication" from a mixture of meth, alcohol and the prescribed drugs Roy was taking.
