In the Enhanced After-School Program at the Academy of Martial Arts & Personal Development, the staff make sure they take time to work with kids who are struggling. This can include some guidance on homework, 1-on-1 tutoring, or even additional assignments to reinforce what is being taught in their students’ classrooms.
This practice has helped two students dramatically improve their literacy & mathematics scores. Anthony, a 2nd grader, has been working with the After-School staff to practice his reading. Each day, he sits with an instructor and reads to them, 1-on-1. This has helped Anthony to feel more confident in his reading, and contributed to him going up TWO reading levels in school! Noah, a 6th grader, was having difficulty with grade level Math. Each day he came in, After-School staff would give him a worksheet that allowed him to practice his math skills. Over the course of several months of dedicated practice and tutoring from the staff, Noah was able to successfully go up TWO levels; he is now performing at grade level in Math!
Congratulations to both Noah & Anthony on their hard work and perseverance!
The Academy’s Enhanced after School Program not only improves a student’s academic performance, but also helps with character development and socialization. Originally, the Academy started it’s program for parents that needed an after school program because there was no one at home to watch over them when they got home. Now, due to the Academy’s life altering program, even parents that have the ability to watch their kids after school are enrolling their children in the Academy’s Enhanced After School Program just to receive those benefits for themselves.
Grandmaster Waldron, believes that the Afterschool program is an invaluable tool in developing children into confident and capable members of society.
