Summer Camp Options Outlined For Manchester
The Manchester Department of Leisure, Family and Recreation and the Manchester Board of Education Tuesday outlined summer camp highlights.

MANCHESTER, CT — The Manchester Department of Leisure, Family and Recreation and the Manchester Board of Education Tuesday outlined summer camp opportunities for Manchester youth for Summer 2022.
There are a few new twists.
The Recreation Division will offer six weeks of traditional summer camp consisting of three two-week sessions:

- Session 1: June 27- July 8
- Session 2: July 11-July 22
- Session 3: July 25- August 5
The camp day will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with extended care opportunities both before and after camp for an additional fee. Lunch and a snack are included in the camp day.
Summer camp is designed for youths who have completed Kindergarten through age 15 and there are multiple camp sites to choose from including:

- Center Springs Park
- Leisure Labs at Mahoney Center
- Community Y Recreation Center
- Martin School
- Camp Kennedy
- A teen site location
Also offered will be a Recreation Leader in Training program for 15-year-olds who are interested in pursuing part-time work as a camp counselor or lifeguard.

Extended Camp Opportunity
- The Recreation Division will be offering a specialty camp during the week of August 8-12. The Sustainability Camp will be held at the Nathan Hale Activity Center. This camp will strengthen campers’ understanding of STEM and sustainability concepts through engaging lessons, indoor/outdoor projects games and discussions. This camp will run 9:00 am.-3:00 p.m. with before and after care options. This camp is designed for ages 8-12.

Youth Service Bureau Offerings
- The Bureau offers a variety of one week summer programs for school age- high school youth that focus on positive youth development. Details regarding these programs will be available in the summer issue of Better Manchester Magazine which will arrive in Manchester homes during the last week of April. Manchester Public School Offerings: New Format for Summer 2022
- Manchester Public Schools will offer four weeks of academic summer camp from July 5 – July 29 for MPS students currently enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 4.
- The academic portion of the camp day will run from 8:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. with extended care provided free of charge by Manchester Early Learning Center (MELC), from 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Students must attend the academic portion of camp to take part in the extended care offerings.
- Bussing will only be available to and from the academic portion of programming (8:30 a.m. –11:30 a.m.) MELC extended care will provide students with enrichment activities, group games, visits from community partners, spirit days, field trips, swimming and more. Extended care students will be provided lunch, snack, and must be picked up by parents/guardians by 5:30 p.m.
- Online registration for Manchester Public Schools academic camp and MELC extended care will open March 7, 2022 and close on April 7, 2022. Space in MELC’s extended care is limited, early registration is recommended. Questions should be directed to Heather Elsinger-Gates at heathere@mpspride.org or 860-647-3489.
Manchester Early Learning Center Offerings:
- In addition to extended care in July with Manchester Public Schools, Manchester Early learning Center (MELC) will offer two weeks of camp August 1st – August 5th and August 8th – August 12th at one of Manchester’s elementary schools for MPS students currently enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 4. The camp day will run from 8:00am – 4:30pm. Parent / guardian drop off is required.
- MELC summer camp will provide students with enrichment activities, group games, visits from community partners, spirit days, field trips, swimming and more. MELC campers will be
- provided a lunch and a snack. Fees will be determined by weeks of participation with some scholarships available.
- Online registration for MELC Summer Camp will open March 7, 2022 – www.melearning.org.
