MANCHESTER, CT — Two Manchester science, technolology, engineering and math teachers gave their Buckley Elementary School students a lesson in creativity in calculating how to display a heartfelt message on Wednesday.

It read, "We miss you" in big red letters across a fence at the Buckley playscape.

STEM Specialists Chanel Curtin and Sarah Patrylak said they wanted to leave the message to students on behalf of the staff at Buckley.

"We miss the students and want them to know we'll get through this together," Curtin said, referring to the school closures and remote learning associated with the coronavirus pandemic.

Curtin said she and Patrylak went to the school armed with red plastic cups to fashion the message.

"Manchester Public Schools' students and staff are a very tight-knit community," she said. "We are one big family at Buckley Elementary and I know, speaking on behalf of my colleagues, we miss our students and we want them to know that we're thinking of them. We went to the school yesterday — April 15th — to leave our message on the playground fence in hopes that the message will spread to our students. Even though we're physically apart, we're all in this together and miss you all greatly."
