I have worked with a local credit union for many years. There are 6 employees in this one branch and I have done mortgages for 3 of the employees including the manager. She asked me to stop by to speak to a newly hired loan officer.
To my surprise, I had interviewed this LO a couple of years ago and actually would have hired her, but I sensed her reluctance on her part to work for a non-bank. She had already told her manager that I had once interviewed her, so we got that part out of the way very quickly. The manager wanted us to meet to discuss more ways for us to work together to refer more business back and forth. I have been referring clients for years for home equity line business, car loans and checking accounts.
During out discussion the LO stated that she was surprised that mortgage brokers have survived the push by Washington to put them out of business. The branch manager offered the following observation. Putting mortgage brokers like Joe out of business would be a travesty, he can get loans done that we couldn’t possibly do. Wow, I didn’t see that coming. I thanked her for her kind words, as she made my day.
We spent time talking about how we can continue referring business to one another. As I walked out, I couldn’t help wondering what the LO was thinking.
