The Bowers PTA has been raising money for the playground for the last year, organization members said.

PTA officials said the playground equipment has not been replaced in more than 20 years, and there is no money in the budget to refurbish it. Pieces are missing and currently just the kindergarten and first-grade students can use the area, PTA officials said. Grades 2 and up are allowed on the swing set and basketball courts only, PTA officials said.

The playground committee has a $20,000 grant in hand and needs help in funding some of the equipment and installation work.

The goal is to raise another $15,ooo, committee members said.

The committee has also started a GoFundMe account — https://www.gofundme.com/BowersPlayground.
