Traffic Advisories Posted For 2023 Manchester Road Race

MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester police have issued several traffic advisories related to the 87th running of the Manchester Road Race. The race is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning.

No parking will be permitted on East Center Street from Lenox Street to Center Street during the overnight period from 11:59 p.m. Wednesday to about 1 p.m. on Thursday.

There will also be no parking allowed on Main Street from Center Street to Hartford Road from 11:59 p.m. Wednesday until the road reopens after race cleanup.

Vehicles will be towed, if necessary, police said.

The Manchester Police Department will be shutting down traffic on Main Street between Bissell Street and Maple Street at 5 on the morning of the race to allow construction crews to erect fencing and ropes along the course.

At 5:30 a.m., Main Street will be closed to all traffic from Center Street to Charter Oak Street until the conclusion of the race.

No parking will be allowed along the race route, as indicated on the map.

At 9 a.m., the entire race route and the I-384 Exit 3 and Exit 4 ramps 4 will be closed to traffic for the race. Anyone with a vehicle inside the race loop you will be unable to exit the loop area until runners and the tail car, a Manchester Police Department vehicle, has passed by.

There are designated handicapped parking spaces in parking lots around the downtown area. Anyone requiring a handicapped parking space is advised to arrive early. The inner portion of the race route will be closed to traffic exiting the area until the completion of the race so those needed special spaces should use handicapped parking outside the race route, police said.

To minimize the number of vehicles in the downtown area, a bus shuttle operation has been organized. Participants and spectators can park at Manchester Community College where buses will be available to shuttle you to the downtown area.

Police said spectators and runners are not to leave backpacks, containers, or bundled items unattended. Any unattended items left inside restricted areas, or anywhere along the race route, will be confiscated.

"As a reminder, please remember that if you see something, say something. Officers will be posted throughout the Main Street area and along the race route to ensure the safety of everyone," police said. "The Manchester Police Department would like to thank you in advance for helping us make the 87th Manchester Road Race an enjoyable event for all."
