Visiting Poet Kaveh Akbar to Teach Masterclass And Read At MCC

MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester Community College is slated to host the visiting poet Kaveh Akbar on March 21, for a masterclass and reading of his work, in the SBM Charitable Foundation Auditorium. Tje program is on tap to start at 4:30 p.m.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Akbar is scheduled to teach the poetry masterclass from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. He will then read from his work
from 6 to 7 p.m.

COVID protocols, with safe distancing and masks, will be observed.

Akbar is the author of "Pilgrim Bell" (Graywolf Press, 2021) and "Calling a Wolf a Wolf" (Alice James Books, 2017; Penguin UK, 2018). He is also the author of a chapbook, "Portrait of the
Alcoholic" (Sibling Rivalry, 2017).

Akbar is the recipient of the Levis Reading Prize, Pushcart Prize, Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship, and Lucille Medwick Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America. Born in Tehran, Iran, he teaches at Purdue University and in the low-residency MFA programs at Randolph College and Warren Wilson College.
