MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester officials were asking some residents to be careful about water usage Friday afternoon.

Because of a break to a 24-inch pipe at the Globe Hollow Water Treatment Plant, and firefighting activities on Main Street, a voluntary conservation alert was put in place at about 12:30 p.m.

It was sent as a precaution while repairs to the water treatment plant piping are taking place. The fire broke out at about 9:30 a.m. and involved heavy water usage at a car dealership on Main Street.
