“When Someone Speaks Badly About Me, What Should I Say About Them?”

Over the weekend, I showed a home that we are flipping. I always love doing it, as it keeps me connected with what is going on in the market and how folks are perceiving homes that we have renovated.

Wonderful couple with two young children. I meet them at the agreed upon time, as they had indicated they had already knew where the property was. They told me that they had actually mentioned the home to a real estate agent that was showing them another home, but the agent kept discouraging them from seeing the property, compared to his listing.

He went on to bad mouth me, that homes that we renovate aren’t unusually done very well. It seemed the more bad things he was saying, the more they wanted to see the property.

As we went through the home, I could start seeing all the buying signals. They loved the home and asked lots of questions about the work that was done, the different products that were used and the warranty’s for appliances, furnace, windows, siding and roof. I gave them the map of the property, the septic report, well water report and home inspection that I have done as soon we finish each home.

They then told me the story about the real estate agent and all that he had to say. I then shared with them my attitude when folks says bad things about me. I told them, when someone says something negative about me, I hope it makes them feel better and what they are saying is none of my business. They told me he was actually talking himself out of a possible sale.

They also told me they went online and Googled my name and then said we checked out all we needed to know. I thanked them for their kind words and shared with Gail, how they loved the home, as she managed the renovations.

They told me they were going to speak to their loan officer and once they handled the preapproval, they would like to meet again and discuss the purchase.
