World War II Vet Awarded $1.78 Million in Accident Settlement

The man was 86 when his car was struck by another near an off-ramp of I-84 in Manchester, breaking both hips.

A jury has awarded a World War II veteran a $1.78 million settlement from a two-vehicle collision three years ago, according to the Connecticut Law Tribune.

Herbert Shook, now 89, sustained two broken hips when another driver allegedly ran a red light and smashed into his vehicle as he was turning from an off-ramp of Interstate 84 in Manchester in Nov. 2012.

Shook spent two months in a rehabilitation center following the accident.

Police originally ticketed Shook for running a red light, but a Hartford Superior Court jury weighed the conflicting accounts of the accident and found the driver who hit Shook was at fault, the Tribune reported.
