1 Driver Injured, Another Arrested After Vehicle Runs Red Light In Mansfield: State Police

MANSFIELD, CT — A Mansfield driver was injured and another driver was arrested after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 195 and South Frontage Road Saturday night, according to Connecticut State Police.

The crash was reported at about 7:59 p.m.

According to the crash report, a 2011 Toyota Sienna was stopped facing eastbound on South Frontage Road at the intersection with Route 195. A 2004 GMC Sierra was traveling southbound on Route 195 when the driver failed to stop for a red traffic signal and entered the intersection.

The GMC struck the front driver's side of the Toyota, according to police.

The Toyota driver, a 61-year-old Mansfield man, was unable to exit the vehicle after the crash and sustained suspected minor injuries, acc ording to a crash report. Mansfield EMS transported him to Backus Hospital for evaluation and treatment, state police said.

The GMC driver, identified as Taylor James Bassett, 26, of Canterbury, reported no injuries and declined medical attention, according to the report. Police determined Bassett was at fault and arrested him on charges of operating a motor vehicle under suspension, misuse of a plate, operating without insurance and failure to stop at a traffic signal, according to a crash report.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
