36 Pounds of Pot Seized During Traffic Stop

The driver was speeding and tailgating on I-84 in Willington.

Not only did Connecticut State Police stop a speeding and tailgating motorist on I-84 near Willington Wednesday afternoon, they ended up confiscating 36 pounds of marijuana hidden in the trunk of the driver’s car.

According to a police report, the driver was stopped about 3 p.m. May 20 and after the trooper spoke with the man about his travel plans, police searched the trunk where they found the 36 pounds of pot hidden.

The driver was identified as Hugh E. Thomas, 45, of Dorchester, MA. He was charged with speeding in excess of 70 mph, following too close, possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana and possession with intent to sell.

Police also seized Thomas’s 2014 Toyota Camry, three cell phones and $387 cash.

Thomas was held on $100,000 was to have been arraigned Thursday in state Superior Court in Rockville.
