MANSFIELD, CT — A 75-year-old Mansfield resident escaped injury during a wild crash caused by one of last week's heavy thunderstorms, state police said.

According to a state police accident report, a 2007 Pontiac Vibe being driven by the 75-year-old woman was headed south on South Eagleville Road at 11:02 a.m. on Sept. 13. The woman told state police that the heavy rains caused the vehicle to hydroplane, the report states.

The Pontiac wound up careening into a ditch before hitting a stump and landing in between a pair if utility poles, according to the accident report.
