MANSFIELD, CT — Joshua’s Trust in Mansfield has named Christina Mailhos as its new executive director, the land conservation nonprofit announced April 27. The organization said Mailhos brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in nonprofit management and municipal governance to the role.
Her appointment comes as Joshua’s Trust continues conservation and stewardship work across northeastern Connecticut. According to the organization, Joshua’s Trust has protected more than 5,500 acres in 16 towns. Founded in 1966, the nonprofit said it is dedicated to conserving the natural and cultural resources of the region through land protection, stewardship and community outreach.
“I am honored to join Joshua’s Trust and build upon its legacy safeguarding open spaces, protecting and restoring habitats, maintaining trails and fostering an appreciation for the natural and cultural resources that make our region unique,” said Christina. “This organization represents the very best of community-driven conservation, and I look forward to working alongside its dedicated board, staff, volunteers, and supporters to strengthen partnerships, deepen community connections, and ensure the long-term stewardship of the region’s special places.”
Mailhos is known locally for serving eight years as first selectwoman of Willington, where the organization said she led municipal operations, budgets and public services in the town of about 6,200 residents. According to the announcement, she worked with boards, commissions and regional partners and handled land use, conservation and planning issues during that time.
Joshua’s Trust also cited her nonprofit background, including service as executive director of Connecticut-based Hope After Loss. In that role, according to the organization, she worked with the board on strategic planning and governance, focused on financial sustainability, managed staff and volunteers, and built relationships with donors and community stakeholders.
“Christina brings an exceptional blend of leadership, local knowledge, and passion for conservation,” said John Hankins, President of the Board of Directors. “We are confident that her vision and collaborative approach will help Joshua’s Trust continue to thrive and expand its impact across the region.”
The organization said Mailhos has deep roots in northeastern Connecticut and is an avid hiker and advocate for open space. As executive director, Joshua’s Trust said, she will focus on advancing strategic land protection, enhancing stewardship practices and creating opportunities for community engagement.
