Home Invader With BB Gun Unmasked In Struggle With Resident: Coventry Police

COVENTRY, CT — In a scene worthy of professional wrestling, a villain was unmasked after a struggle in Coventry, except for the BB gun thing, a police report shows.

And as a result, Willimantic man has been charged in connection with an armed home invasion that occurred at a Coventry apartment in January, police said.

Carlos Soto-Quintana, 35, was arrested July 16 via a warrant following what Coventry police described as a lengthy investigation into the incident at 1175 Main St.

According to police, a masked individual entered an apartment armed with what was later determined to be a BB gun. The resident struggled with the intruder and was able to pull the ski mask from his head, police said. During the confrontation, the BB gun was dropped before the man fled the apartment. Police said nothing was taken from the residence.

Investigators identified Soto-Quintana as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.

At the time of his arrest, Soto-Quintana was already in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Correction. He was served with the warrant and processed at Rockville Superior Court.

Soto-Quintana is charged with home invasion, first-degree attempted robbery, first-degree threatening, carrying a dangerous weapon and third-degree assault.

The bond for Soto-Quintana was at first set at $250,000, and he was arraigned July 16 at Rockville Superior Court. A judge knocked the bond down to $150,000 but he failed to post it and remained in custody Monday with a return date of July 31, judicial system records show.
