BOLTON, CT — Square Peg Pizzeria is expanding its restaurant empire into Bolton, taking over the Route 85 outpost where Parkside Pizza & Ice Cream will close Saturday after six years in business.

Parkside Pizza announced that Aug. 22 will be its final day at the restaurant, marking the end of a six-year run at the Bolton location. The owners said the decision came with "very mixed emotions" as they reflected on the restaurant's role as a gathering place for the community.

The restaurant has hosted friends and families, celebrations, first dates, birthday parties and cruise nights over the years, the owners said.

"To our amazing customers: thank you," the announcement said. "Thank you for every meal, every conversation, every kind word, and every time you chose to spend your time with us."

The owners also thanked their employees, calling them "the heart of this place."

Parkside Pizza will hold one final cruise night Friday, Aug. 21, with music from Hardwood, as part of a farewell celebration.

The incoming Square Peg restaurant will occupy the existing Parkside Pizza space on Route 85. The announcement did not provide a planned opening date but said more information about the grand opening will be posted on Parkside Pizza and Square Peg's social media accounts.

Square Peg also has retained most of Parkside Pizza's current employees, meaning customers can expect to see many familiar faces when the new restaurant opens.

"While closing this chapter is incredibly difficult, we are choosing to focus on the memories, the friendships, and the community that made Parkside Pizza & Ice Cream so special," the owners said.

Parkside Pizza encouraged customers to stop by before Saturday's closing to share one final meal and celebrate the restaurant's six years in Bolton.

The Bolton location will become the latest addition to the growing Square Peg Pizzeria chain, which currently has Connecticut locations in Storrs, Berlin, East Hartford, Glastonbury, Plainville, Shelton, Preston and Vernon in Connecticut, as well as a location in Delray Beach in Florida, according to the company's website.
