MANSFIELD,CT — The greed of one driver certainly backfired in a Mansfield incident last week, state police said.

And the man wasn't even supposed to be on the road, they added.

According to a state police crash report, the incident took place at 3:06 p.m. on Oct. 7.

A 2011 Kia Optima with a 67-year-old man from Windham driving was headed north on Storrs Road in the right lane of two, according to a crash report. A 2012 Toyota Rav4 was in the left lane on the same side of the road with a 35-year-old Windham man driving, according to a crash report.

As the two northbound lanes were merged into one, the driver of the Toyota tried to prevent the driver of the Kia from getting in front of him and, as a result, side-swiped the Kia, according to a crash report.

No one was hurt, according to state police.

The driver of the Toyota, later identified as Kyle William Clayton, then fled the scene, according to a crash report.

He was picked up by troopers a short time later and charged with failure to maintain the proper lane, evading responsibility and driving with a suspended license, state police said.
