Mansfield Elementary School has earned Connecticut School of Distinction recognition for the third consecutive year. The Connecticut State Department of Education released the results Tuesday, Oct. 27.
The school reached Level 1, the state's highest accountability category, with high performance and high growth in English language arts and math for all students. It also earned recognition for high growth in both subjects among high-needs students. Mansfield Elementary is among just 16 Connecticut schools recognized across all five distinction indicators, according to the announcement.
The school serves 482 students in prekindergarten through fourth grade and is in its fourth year following the consolidation of three neighborhood schools. Principal Kate McCoy shared the recognition with staff in an email. "This is remarkable, and we could not be more proud of our amazing team," McCoy wrote.
"This prestigious honor reflects incredible academic growth and achievement across our entire student body," Superintendent Candace Morell said in the announcement. "Reaching the state's highest performance tier so early in our school's history is a testament to the relentless dedication, passion, and expertise of our administrators, teachers and paraeducators. We could not be prouder of our amazing team for setting such an inspiring standard of excellence for our students and community!" The announcement scheduled MES Pride Day for Wednesday, Nov. 4, to share the accomplishment with staff and students.
