COVENTRY, CT — Coventry police said they have arrested a local man as part of an investigation into the mistreatment of cats.

On Thursday, Coventry police took into custody 42-year-old Derek VanDoren in connection with an animal cruelty investigation on Carpenter Road. Police said the investigation began after the CPD's community service officer received a tip about "an abundance of felines" at a home on Carpenter Road. When police arrived at the property, they discovered that more than 30 cats felines were living on the property.

The cats were "in various conditions," police said.
