Birth of the Cool: Recreated by the UConn Jazz Ensemble

Celebrate Miles Davis’ legacy by experiencing a recreation of his revered “Birth of the Cool” recording from 1949-50.

The UCONN jazz ensemble will address the innovative, lushly orchestrated, elegantly swinging arrangements of Johnny Carisi, Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan and John Lewis.

Scored unconventionally to include French horn and tuba, Davis’ nonet successfully merged jazz and classical chamber music and inspired much continued experimentation within jazz.
