Bus Carrying UConn Students Catches Fire

No one was injured; Students were headed to Boston for a senior class trip.

About 50 UConn students escaped injury when the chartered bus carrying them to Boston for a senior class trip erupted into a fireball on I-84 in Sturbridge, MA on Saturday.

The students were headed to a harbor cruise organized by the UConn student organization SUBOG, according to NBC Connecticut.

Police said that the bus caught fire on the on-ramp from I-84 onto I-90 eastbound and caused two lanes to close about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the report.

Students reportedly will receive refunds for the trip because a substitute bus was not available to drive them to Boston. They were brought back to campus in mini-buses, according to the NBC report that can be found here.
