The five-time Grammy® winning collective, “has always been a band that prioritizes the sound of the music,” says bandleader and bassist Michael League. Displaying a wide array of influences including funk, rhythm &amp; blues, hard rock, classic soul, modern gospel, new tech, fusion and jazz, Snarky Puppy isn’t exactly a jazz band, it’s not a fusion band and it’s definitely not a jam band. It’s probably best to take Nate Chinen of the New York Times’ advice, as stated in an online discussion about the group, to “take them for what they are, rather than judge them for what they’re not.”

POMFRET - The acclaimed a cappella ensemble Take Note! will perform in a benefit concert on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., hosted by Christ Church Pomfret,<a href="https://www.google.com/maps/search/521+Pomfret+Street,+Pomfret,+CT?entry=gmail&amp;source=g" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"> 521 Pomfret Street, Pomfret, CT</a>. Donations received at the door will support Partners in Development (PID) and its project work in Guatemala, Haiti, and Mississippi.
The concert will feature Take Note!’s signature mix of jazz, pop, traditional, and multicultural repertoire performed by its select ensemble of talented local singers. Take Note! never charges for performances, and all donations collected at this event will go directly to Partners in Development.
Christ Church Pomfret has been deeply involved with Partners in Development since 2016, when members of the congregation began participating in annual service trips to Guatemala. Volunteers have supported PID’s mission by assisting with medical outreach, building safe stoves and housing improvements, and working alongside local families. This long‑standing partnership reflects the church’s commitment to hands‑on service and to supporting communities facing extreme poverty.
Partners in Development works to transform lives through sustainable programs in housing, healthcare, education, and economic development. Their long‑term presence in Guatemala, Haiti, and Mississippi focuses on helping families build stability and opportunity through practical, community‑centered support.
Since its founding in 2003, Take Note! has helped raise significant funds for charitable causes across Eastern Connecticut through its mission of offering free benefit concerts in partnership with local nonprofits. Take Note! A Cappella Performs A Concert To Benefit Partners In Development

Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry

This forum will celebrate the Ballard Institute’s new exhibition of the same name, with acclaimed puppet scholar Dr. Claudia Orenstein of the CUNY Graduate Center in New York, UConn Puppet Arts Program Head Bart Roccoberton, and John Bell, Director of the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry. The speakers will explore the ways that puppetry in the United States transformed during the twentieth century from a popular low-culture entertainment to an accepted form of legitimate theater and a massively influential mass-media phenomenon.&nbsp; 
The Becoming Modern exhibition, curated by Professor Bell, includes examples of early 20th-century work by Yiddish puppeteers Zuni Maud and Yosl Cutler, and Russian émigré Basil Milovsoroff; but focuses specifically on innovations in puppetry beginning in the 1960s by such puppeteers as Bob Baker, Robert Anton, Charles Ludlam, Brad Brewer, Dan Hurlin, Stephen Kaplin, Janie Geiser, Larry Reed, Theodora Skipitares, Sandy Spieler, Amy Trompetter, and Charles Ludlam. “Becoming Modern: U.S. Puppetry in the Twentieth Century” Forum 

Join us on Wednesday, April 22, at 7:30 PM. Bev York will present “The Sons of Liberty in Windham County.” Buchanan Auditorium, Mansfield Library, Mansfield, CT.
250 years ago, American colonists fought for independence from British rule. Bev York’s presentation will illustrate some of the many ways that Connecticut’s men and women participated in the cause. Back then, Windham County was one of the hotbeds of resistance activity. Some of the same patriots who served on the Connecticut Assembly and on the Governor’s Council of Safety were radical rebels by night. And there were Ladies of Liberty who were leaders in the resistance effort, too. As always, Bev will make the history lesson both informative and entertaining.
This program is free and open to all.
Bev York is well-known locally for her educational programs and historical reenactments. She has served the history community in many capacities. Most recently, she was the Education Director at The American Museum in Willimantic. Prior to that, she served as the Museum Education and Program Director at the Windham Textile &amp; History Museum in Willimantic, and was previously its Director. York has also been the site administrator at the Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry. In addition, she has taught history as an adjunct instructor at Quinebaug Valley Community College for nineteen years.
York received a BS in Art Education from Central Connecticut State University and an MS in History Education from Eastern Connecticut State University.

As Older approaches the age when she will join the Guardians in the Fray, a transgression by Younger threatens the safety of the Burrow. Older takes the blame, giving up her authority and allowing new leadership to take over. As a new order emerges, the sudden arrival of a Stranger brings knowledge that makes Older question everything she believed. Danger is Firesign’s take on the hard-boiled detective character, with first-person narration and crazy adventures that often involve mistaken identity, and of course there’s always a dangerous dame. The skits spoof the conventions of old detective radio shows, right down to the special effects, the sponsors, the on-air host, the convoluted plots, and just about anything else that one might have heard on a classic serial.

Fern attends a dinner party to meet her new boyfriend’s family–which consists of his wife and the other members of their polyamorous household. An outsider to their world of consensual non-monogamy and its unfamiliar rules and norms, Fern struggles to keep up and to fit in. Written in rhyming verse and inspired by Moliere, The Polycule satirizes the conventions of unconventional relationships.

Farm Story is a marionette-based web series, by UConn Puppet Arts MFA candidate Tessa Beck Fey, that follows Farmer Daisy and her unconventional friends through the ups and downs of daily life, and the occasional magical interference. When a Skull is discovered in an overwhelmed farmer's Scarecrow, her friends use the opportunity to magically reanimate the Skull for its friendship and free labor!&nbsp; 
This screening will feature episodes 1 and 2 and will run approximately 30 minutes and then be followed by a talkback. This film is recommended for ages 7+.&nbsp;

Gumshoe detectives meet comedic spoofing and silly antics in Firesign Theatre’s The Further Adventures of Nick Danger, Third Eye. This Nick Danger adventure is a radio play gone haywire, with Firesign spoofing everything from stereotypical film noir characters and plotlines down to the to the foley soundscape to the on-air radio commercials. Add in some zany physical comedy and you’re in for a silly, fun treat. It is no wonder that the Library of Congress calls Firesign Theatre “the Beatles of comedy.”
