College Notes - Students From Mansfield

MANSFIELD, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

• Several Eastern Connecticut State University students are volunteering with local preschool children through Jumpstart, an AmeriCorps program that supports the language and social skills of children from low-income areas. Among the Eastern volunteers is Jessica Robichaux of Mansfield, who majors in Pre-Early Childhood Education and Mathematics. Eastern students who apply for Jumpstart are interviewed and then divided into teams that work together in local classrooms. Every team follows an assigned curriculum and designs stimulating activities to engage the children.

Tufts University, Medford MA

• Tufts University recently announced the dean's list for the fall 2018 semester. Students from Mansfield earning dean's list honors are Kennedy Bailey and Lydia Russell. Dean's list honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

• Noah Donald of Mansfield, a member of the class of 2020 majoring in mechanical engineering, and electrical and computer engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), was a member of a student team that recently completed an intense, hands-on research project through the WPI project center in Worcester, England. The project was titled Energize Worcester Phase II: Investigating Perceptions and Interactions Regarding Energy Consumption in Student Properties. In their project summary, the students wrote, "The goal was to understand student perceptions and routines regarding their heating usage and identify landlord motivations for more efficient upgrades."
