Distracted Driving — But Not Phone — Blamed For Mansfield Crash

MANSFIELD, CT — Distracted driving was cited as the cause of a car hitting a pole in Mansfield Friday, but it wasn't a cell phone, state police said.

The crash took place at 3:22 p.m. Friday on the 800 Block of Mansfield City Road, state police said in a report. A 17-year-old Mansfield resident was in a 2017 Honda Accord and turned into the eastbound lane, according to a crash report.

The driver became distracted by "items inside of his vehicle," ran off the road and hit a utility pole, according to a crash report.

The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt, sate police said.

The car was towed from the scene and the driver was issued a verbal warning for distracted driving other than a phone, state police said.
